Much to tell about Parnell

Where to begin…

Well, after the CBD of Auckland left us in a state of disappointment and disbelief, we decided to take a step to the side and start exploring the districts orbiting the city centre.

Starting in Newmarket, which is pretty much a “telling name” (It’s basically a huge shopping mall), we’ve arrived in Parnell shortly after and it was love at first sight.

Parnell features a lot of Victorian or old-fashioned villas (similar to Ponsonby) by keeping some relaxing and comfy vibes (unlike Ponsonby).

Whenever I looked down a road or a smaller path I was amazed to see cute alleys like this or restaurants with a stunning view upon the skyline of Auckland.

Plus, Parnell has some interesting sights to discover, like the biggest wooden gothic church in Australasia.

The lovely Armenian church manager even told us that they actually moved this church across the street in 1982, because the diocese had to sell the land on the other side due to financial problems. Moved. The. Church.

And on top of all that great first impressions of Parnell, I enjoyed the best Butter Chicken of my life there. ๐Ÿ˜… An Indian restaurant called “Oh Calcutta” promotes its Butter Chicken by claiming “we can comfortably say we are New Zealand’s best.” For having this exact dish in at least three different countries I can say, that’s an understatement. โœŒ๐Ÿป

So, if you’ll ever make it to Auckland, make sure not to skip that amazing district.
